February 22nd is the big night for Hollywood, the movie studios and actors. The Oscars are the golden ticket to prestige, more revenues and greater acting payouts. The big names such as Brad Pitt and Angela Jolie know the awards can further validate their star power for another year. But the awards can put the lime light on the beaten underdogs (Mickey Rourke) or the Slumdogs.
The star power of awards can have the same impact on a small business. A business award for your small business can mean greater sales, added PR and help employee retention. This year, there are several business awards to add a little star power to your company:
- The American Business Awards - The Stevies: Covers a range of 40 categories from best new company or best salesperson. Deadline is March 31st, 2009. (disclaimer: I am a judge)
- Dell/NFIB Small Business Excellence Award: Open to 13 countries and a grand prize of $50,000 in Dell products. Deadline: April 3rd, 2009.
- Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Award: The 23rd year of the awards not only includes the global award but over 250 regional awards. Deadline: March 16, 2009.
So whether your an underdog, slumdog or just want a little recognition in these challenging times, 2009 is a year for entering business awards.
