Super Bowl Sunday: A Lesson in Lemonade Making

Sunday February 3, 2008
The long-awaited historic game of the New England Patriots claiming the undefeated crown on this Super Bowl Sunday still may lose its appeal over the Super Bowl advertising hype. It's been an ongoing trend of the ads garnering more Monday morning water cooler talk than the game itself. Super Bowl ads sell out in record time and this year's 30-second spot going for a cool $2.7 million is no different. Successful advertising is memorable and gets people talking about your business.

GoDaddy.com CEO, Bob Parsons knows how to stir up the conversation. As Parson's noted on his Hot Points Blog:

The purpose of our "Spot On" ad is to direct the attention of Super Bowl viewers to GoDaddy.com’s website where they will be able to see our real Super Bowl ad – the ad we wanted to show, but that Fox refused – Danica Patrick’s “Exposure” ad.
The key marketing lesson here is being able to take the lemons out of a situation and turn it into lemonade. You don't need $2.7 million to make lemonade, just a little creativity.
